Pulps, Films, & Sex Politics: The Astounding History of Science Fiction

The first inklings of science fiction as we know it today began to emerge in ancient and classical literature before its widespread popularization in the pulp magazines of the 1940s and ‘50s. Today it continues to be indicative of the values and fears of American society, reflecting attitudes towards race, gender, and sexuality and offering criticism of consumer culture, the dangers of technology, and destructive military action.
