Sounds of the Underground, Cal State LA Library’s annual research symposium and community archives collection preservation initiative, returns with a dynamic three-day series featuring Los Angeles-based musicians, music scholars, cultural workers, and scenesters to unpack the underground sounds and deep cuts of LA’s popular music soundscapes. Our theme this year—Making Sound, Making Vision—centers on the impetus music creators, lovers, and thinkers activate to bring forward new and more just worlds through activism, memory-making, and community projects.

We thank our sponsors: Special Collections and Archives of the University Library at Cal State LA, the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, the Department of Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies, and La Plaza de Cultura Y Arte.
